Vulcain introduced the Cricket in 1947, and its strident alarm quickly made it a favorite of world leaders. Presidents Truman, Eisenhower and Johnson all wore one, and the brand later created an anniversary model for Barack Obama. In 1961 Vulcain took the Cricket underwater with the Nautical, a diver’s alarm watch that went with Hannes Keller to a depth of nearly 250 meters in 1966. Those achievements built on decades of award-winning complications shown at the World Fairs in Paris, Chicago and Barcelona.
Today Vulcain operates from Le Locle, where it was revived in 2002, and continues to build mechanical watches with genuine character. The modern collection draws directly from the archive, with the Cricket President, Cricket Tradition and Nautical Heritage carrying the alarm forward alongside the Skindiver Nautique, Grand Prix, Monopusher and Chronograph 1970’s. Each piece offers collectors a real slice of Swiss horological history at a price that remains approachable for the category.
